DIY {Do It Yourself} Friday: Rope covered “S”

Hello again! :) Can I get a happy dance because it’s Friday anyone? Ha! {over here doing one of my own} Today I’m going to show you a little project I did for under $3.00 :) Awesome right!?! All you need is…

1. Any size wooden or plastic letter {I got mine in the Target dollar section for $2.50 + tax}

2. Thin rope/thick twine {Had laying around-I think it’s “jute rope”}

3. Hot glue gun and LOTS of glue sticks! :)

Here is the starting piece

STEP ONE: What I did is take the end of the rope and hot glue it onto the edge of the “S”. I then wrapped rope continually while hot gluing every time I wrapped. I dotted hot glue a LOT. I wasn’t sure how well it was going to stick so I wanted to error on the side of caution. Looking back I probably overdid this step. I would say every 2-3 wraps would stick it good enough {might vary depending on what kind of rope you use}. KEEP ROPE TIGHT TOGETHER, this will prevent the color of your letter from showing through too much.

STEP TWO: This got a bit awkward around the bend in the “S” so I simply made a small gap. I then cut small pieces of rope to put into this gap. I glued each strand into the gap. It worked out well. :) Each time you get to an “awkward” spot, repeat this step. Continue wrapping until you reach the bottom of your letter.

Keep going, you are doing GREAT if you are to this step! Ha!

STEP THREE: When I got to the outside ends of my “S” I wasn’t sure what to do. I decided to do a spiral pattern but I’m sure a straight look would be just as nice. I started in one corner and worked my way inward.

 STEP FOUR: I looked over my “S” and glued a piece of rope over any spots I had missed, or where it just looked like it needed a little polishing. I like that my “S” is a little eclectic and not too perfect. :) Just like me-HA!

AFTERTHOUGHTS: 1. Not as much hot glue 2. I would have liked to paint my letter and had some color peek through maybe? {white or a fun blue} 3. I want to find a great flower to put on somewhere in the corner

And that folks, is my DIY {Do It Yourself} Friday post! Hope you enjoyed my “Rope Letter S” as much as I do and hope to see you back next week! :) Maybe I will post a picture of where I decided to put this in my house! {wink-wink}

Until then ,

~Sarah~

    I’ve been wanting a “G” to hang in my house…but I don’t want a plain ol’ “G”. I think I’m going to try this with a little variation…this is perfect!!! :)
