In case you are wondering what’s going on here, I am joining up with The Nester and her 31 Day Challenge. I am challenging myself to write about Thankfulness for 31 days…every day be thankful for something, even if it’s little. A way to force me to look at the positive so to speak…if you want to see all the 31 day posts I do, click HERE.
This is going to be a quick one since we have some good friends from Canada visiting us, but today I am thankful for spending time with some good friends and my husband at Alcatraz. As a kid, we visited Alcatraz quite a bit and I have very fond memories of it, it’s so fascinating!! But Brandon has never been and we have been wanting to go, but just haven’t found the time to do it. With our friends here it was perfect timing…they had never been to California and wanted to see the sights and Brandon had never been to Alcatraz, so a match made in Heaven. Ha.
Anyway, Adam and Stephanie arrived at our house at 1AM and we were up at 6 to arrive in SF for the early bird 9 AM boat. We were so tired, but loved every minute of the tour. Seriously, the audio tour is amazing, so well done and very, very fascinating. Sidenote: if you do the tour, do the early bird trip. It’s so much less crowded. By the time we got back on the boat at noon, the island was packed and so not enjoyable.
While I was there, I remembered why I liked it so much. The prison was open during my grandparent’s era and it reminds me so much of them. Even the warden’s uniforms, my Gramps used to wear suits similar to this style.
Brandon and Adam being goofy…
A typical cell at Alcatraz
The view from the island to the city. So gorgeous!
Us…very, very windblown us. ha. yikes
Today I am thankful for Alcatraz. It was such a wonderful time spent with friends and my man. We laughed and got to know each other better {we also took them for their first in n out experience!
}, and I was able to spend some quality time with my man, sans kids! whohoo!
Big hugs xoxo
Challenge: Think of one place you have been to recently that allowed you to spend some quality time with your loved ones. Be thankful for that today. Those are special memories!
